FLAMEWOLF

GreCon FLAMEWOLF Fire Protection

Innovative extinguishing concept to prevent the risk of development and spreading of fire.

The GreCon fire protection philosophy to prevent a fire as early as possible also applies to object protection. GreCon develops protection concepts for object protection on the basis of the individual requirements of the particular production process. Thanks to a modular design and a large range of detection and extinguishing equipment, GreCon object protection solutions are applied in many industries.

The machine fire protection system FLAMEWOLF consisting of the two modules fire detection system and fine spray extinguishing system, which have now been approved, convinces by its response speed and its use with exact spatial focus.

A large range of special extinguishing nozzles covers all areas of the press that are at risk. The new nozzles create a fine water mist by means of which an exactly defined space can be effectively protected.

The water mist fills the protected space, cools it and stops the supply of oxygen. The fire is extinguished and post-ignition is effectively prevented.

Fire Protection Concept

Protection for Planers & Moulders

Anyone who is working in a planing mill knows the risk of fire that comes from planers or moulders. In the past, there were fires in many planing mills that stopped production partly for several weeks.

There are different causes that can be considered as ignition source, but very often, it is a piece of wood that has got jammed and is ignited by frictional heat. This risk gets higher with increasing production speed, which is, however, necessary to achieve a high productivity. Furthermore, there is a high level of automation so that personnel that keeps an eye on the production process decreases. Both factors - increasing planing speeds and a high level of automation to increase productivity - increase the potential risk of fire.

By means of a GreCon early fire detection, combined with automatic extinguishment systems, this risk of fire can be effectively met. Besides spark extinguishment within the exhaust pipes, a water extinguishment, which stands out due to minimum water consumption due to a new water spray technique, is also used in the planer cabin or in the covering hoods of the planer or in the bottom engine bed.

An optical sensor is installed underneath each roller and conveyor roller. This optical sensor monitors the interior space of the planer and activates suitable water extinguishing devices. If an adjustable danger threshold is exceeded, adjoining extinguishing devices are also activated.

The tool positions are exhausted. Spark detectors are positioned in the central exhaust pipe. Upon detection of sparks, water extinguishing devices for pipe systems are activated to protect downstream filters. If an adjustable danger threshold is exceeded, a shut-down of the planer and possibly the fan of the filter is compulsory. Water extinguishing devices are activated according to the application.

Protection for Hot Presses

In the production processes of wood based panels, different inflammable materials, such as chips, fibres, glue, paraffin or even oil, represent danger sources that can only be controlled by additional physical protection measures, such as fine water spray systems.

A modern system for the detection of press fires has to be capable of detecting fires in the main danger areas early and reliably to immediately activate extinguishment systems there, but also for the entire press. The fires occurring during running production have to be fought directly in the place of detection. As a fire might spread quickly within the press, an automatic extinguishing process is to be preferred to a manual fire fighting facility. The GreCon press extinguishment offers both alternatives.

Through the integration of the extinguishing events, registered by the spark extinguishing system, in the total press protection concept, necessary extinguishing measures can be taken quickly. The integration of spark detection in the exhaust pipes of the press inlet and/or outlet makes an early fire detection possible, as it has not yet been realised on the market.

The operators of hot presses with spark detection in the exhaust pipes report that sparks are detected only minutes before the fire detection is activated. Fire events are smaller resulting in the use of lower quantities of extinguishing water. Less extinguishing water means shorter standstill times after a successful extinguishment. With the GreCon central fire alarm system - which is approved by VdS - with integrated extinguishment function it is possible to activate press extinguishing measures manually or automatically.
